Tucson Training for Grand Canyon Hiking
With over 20 years of backpacking and hiking experience we have the expertise to help you get ready for a big trip.
Do you want to hike the Grand Canyon…
but you are worried about your fitness? We can help.
Whether you’re planning your GC adventure with Sol Journeys, a different travel company or even all on your own—we’d love you to join us and other Tucson area residents either our Fall or our Spring preparation program.
Even if you’re not sure when you might make the trip, this will be a great experience to simply get out and get into a better state of fitness. Perhaps you’ll get swept up with the group and end up planning a trip after all. Tucson has many great hiking locations and several that can mirror the technical landscape of the canyon - we’ll take you on those hikes.

- Recommendations for training - we’ll share several options
- Monday morning training trips (3 - 6 mile hikes) - dates may change in Fall
- All hikes are optional
- Approximately 4 additional longer hikes will be offered
- Program begins any Mondy through October 29- a total of 13 weeks if you begin on the August 6
- A Sol Journeys guide will accompany all hikes
Fees: $100 if you sign up for one of the Sol Journeys Backpacking Journeys
$200 - if you wish to sign up without registering for one of our trips.
More details will be sent upon registration - Spring program begins in early FEBRUARY (to prep for Spring hiking in the Canyon or elsewhere).
When we meet for the weekly hikes we’ll also share information
to enhance your training routines.
